BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Once upon a time, there lived a merchant who had three daughters. The youngest was the cleverest, the kindest, and the prettiest of the three daughters. Her name was beauty. They lived in the country but only had a little money. Beauty's sisters were always moaning about how poor they were, but beauty did not once complain.

One day before going to the market , the merchant asked each of each daughters what they wanted him to buy. The first said a fine dress, the second asked for a pearl necklace, and Beauty said "All I will ask for is your safe return and one pink rose that you pick especially for me". But the merchant could not sell anything at the market and came home as poor as before without any present for his daughters. On his way back to the cottage, he got lost in the dark forest and was terribly frightened. All of the sudden he came across a large castle that was surrounded by flowers. The merchant entered the castle but found no one at the castle. He waited for the master for hours but at last he was so tired that he fell fast sleep.

In the morning, the merchant wanted to go but as he did, he remembered his promise to Beauty and picked a lovely pink rose from the garden. As he picked the rose, a frightful looking beast appeared. The merchant fell to his knees and begged forgiveness. "Forgive me, forgive me, don't kill me" said the merchant "How dare you are, you picked my favorite flower" said the beast angrily. "Forgive me. This flower isn't for me. It's for my daughter. I had promised to her to bring her a rose from my journey" said the merchant. "I will forgive you and spare your life" growled the beast "If one of your daughter comes to live with me". When the merchant arrive home, he told his daughters his unhappy tale. But Beauty was happy to save her father's life and agreed to live with the beast. "Dear father, I will do anything for you. Take me to the castle" said beauty. The merchant hugged his daughter.

In the castle every evening, the beast came to visit Beauty and took a conversation between them. One day, the beast asked Beauty to marry him. But although Beauty came to like him, she did not want to marry him. "I really can't say yes..." Beauty began shakily "I'd so much like to...". The beast interrupted her with an abrupt gesture "I quite understand and I'm not offended with your refusal" said the beast.

One day, Beauty became very homesick and begged the beast to let her to visit her father. The beast agreed as long as she returned after seven days. At home, Beauty's father was so pleased to see her and asked Beauty to stay for a long time. But Beauty did not want to stay for longer than she had promised. One night, Beauty had a strange dream that the beast was ill and Beauty knew that she had to return. In the castle, Beauty found the beast died because he was so lonely without her. "If you can stay long enough to be my husband" wished Beauty. Who realized how much she loved him. As she made her wished, the beast turned into a handsome prince.

The beast told Beauty about the spell of a wicked fairy had cast upon him. The beast was free because Beauty loved him for his goodness. Finally, Beauty and the beast married and lived happily ever after in the castle together...
